The return of ex-Padres Bruce Bochy, Tim Flannery, Dave Roberts, and Ryan Klesko to Petco Park finally came to a realization life will definitely be different wearing the hated black and orange. On Monday Night, both starting pitchers were dealing as Giants’ RHP Matt Cain and Padres’ RHP Chris Young. It wasn’t until the top of the 7th Inning when Giants 1B Rich Aurilia hit a deep drive into the gap. My only thoughts were,***** it’s heading for the deepest part of the park "Petco Canyon" as Padres’ RF Brian Giles made a sensational over the shoulder catch, thus denying the Giants of scoring. In the bottom of the 7th Inning, Padres SS Khalil Greene connected on one of Matt Cain’s fastball and rocketed down the left field line, as Greene had a double. Eventually, Khalil Greene scored on a deep sacrifice fly to right field by Padres’ Pinch Hitter Geoff Blum. Padres Player of the Game: RHP Chris Young, OF Brian Giles and Utility Geoff Blum. Chris Young pitched one helluva game while giving up only 4 hits in 7 innings. Brian Giles saved the game by securing the deep gapper with his sensational catch. Geoff Blum knocked in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
In game two of the three game set, the Giants got on the scoreboard first as the Baseball Gods were not on the Padres side in the second inning. The Clay Hensley juju began with a soft grounder hit by Giants’ OF Baaarry Bonds to Padres’ 2B Marcus Giles. Marcus had problems fielding the ball and threw late to first base, thus Baaarry reached safely. The next Giants’ batter, 2B Ray Durham hit a high fly ball to center field as Padres’ OF Mike Cameron did his best impression of Ray Charles showing animation as he was trying to sing and dance to "What’d I Say?" Can’t see the ball ! As the ball landed 4 ft behind Mike Cameron. Hey even the Professionals have their moments in time ! The Clay Hensley juju continued as Giants OF Randy Winn hit a comeback to Clay and Giants 2B was Ray Durham ran on contact. Clay had Ray Durham hang out to dry, but chose to take the safe route and get Randy Winn at first base. Another run scored, after all was said the Giants scored sixth runs off Clay Hensley. The Padres eventually made another comeback and had Bochy and Baarry strolling in the visiting dugout.
Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez made Petco Park a bit small with not only one but two massive towering home runs. The Padres late rally fell short as the Giants won by the score of 6-5. Padres Player of the Game: 1B Adrian Gonzalez, as Adrian went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 3 rbi’s. You Are the Weakest Link Award goes to Padres Clay Hensley for allowing the Giants to get their only two wins of the year.
The final game of the series, pitted Giants’ LHP Noah Lowry against Padres’ RHP Greg Maddux. The Padres struck first as OF Jose Cruz Jr was knocked in by 2B Marcus Giles single. From there on out, the Padres never look back and three more runs were scored. The Padres’ relievers shutdown the Giants the last three innings to run the total to 28 1/3 scoreless innings.
RHP Reliever Doug Brocail pitch the 9th inning to close out the Giants and send them packing to Pittsburgh. As I can only hear Ray Charles singing "Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more" Once again the Padres won the series, by taking 2 out of 3 games. Padres Player of the Game: 2B Marcus Giles, as he went 2 for 3, one rbi, and one run scored.
