Another Draft Pick Acquired

Ny_parkNews that Ex-Padres’ pitcher Chan Ho Park is about to sign with the New York Mets, which will result in the Padres acquiring a sandwiched draft pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds. So far this is the breakdown on what the Padres have acquired in draft picks during the winter season of 2006.

(1) Padres received two draft picks from Astros for signing RHP Woody Williams.
(2) Padres received two draft picks from Giants for signing OF Dave Roberts.
(3) Padres received one draft pick from A’s for signing LHP Alan Embree.
(4) Padres received one draft pick from Giants for signing 1B/OF Ryan Klesko.
(5) Padres received one draft pick from Mets for signing RHP Chan Ho Park.

Therefore, in total the Padres will have received 7 extra draft picks. For the 2007 Draft, the Padres have retained their top three picks. They also have FIVE supplemental picks between the first and second round after losing Type A free agents Dave Roberts and Woody Williams, Type B free agents Alan Embree, Ryan Klesko and Chan Ho Park. The Padres also got the Astros’ second-round pick for losing Williams and the Giants’ third-round pick for losing Roberts. The Padres ended up with 10 picks before the 4th round, including nine-top 100 picks.
